Learning & Curriculum

Our aim at Grouville School is to provide an engaging, inspiring and exciting curriculum for children. We want our children to thrive on real-life, relevant and purposeful experiences that will enable them to succeed and reach their potential in all areas, making links to Jersey's rich and diverse cultural history and context.

Teachers aim to teach the curriculum in a way that is exciting and meaningful, in order to engage and challenge children so that the highest quality learning takes place, children make progress and see themselves as successful learners.

Along with the new curriculum comes new assessment procedures, which schools and the Jersey Department for Education are still developing. At Grouville, teachers continuously assess the children in terms of 'working towards',  'mostly achieving' and 'achieving' their year group objectives. At the end of the year, Teachers will make a judgement as to whether a child is working at, towards or below age related expectations. It is important to remember that children have a whole year to achieve an end of year expectation. Much subject content has been moved to a younger year group, therefore it may take children longer to consolidate their learning of new concepts during this time of transition.

At the beginning of each term, parents will receive a Curriculum Overviews, explaining the focus of the learning and how they can support their child. These can be found under the Year Groups tab on our website.

Click on the subject tabs above to find further information/ objectives for each curriculum area.
