Music forms an enjoyable and active part of life at school. We aim to give children a wide range of musical experiences: listening to music, singing, composing and performing music, appraising it and developing interests and preferences.
We have a range of tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments available. In Key Stage 1 we offer the pBuzz as our tuned instrument. In Key Stage 2 we offer the glockenspiel as the tuned instrument. Throughout their time at school children use these to devise rhythms and patterns of sound. They learn to play alone and with others, following set notes and beginning to improvise and compose their own simple tunes to play, following a set pattern.
We follow a scheme of music that builds on skills and the vocabulary around music each year, reinforcing progression and knowledge.
The Jersey Music Service offers peripatetic music tuition to children wishing to learn an instrument. You can apply at any point in the school year and your child will be put on a waiting list. Lessons usually take place during the school day although they do also offer lessons at the Jersey Music Service site. Information about the application process is available from the Jersey Music Service www.jms.je
